Clinical hypnosis as a tool for change
Having been trained in clinical hypnosis, I use this evidence-based approach to help clients access deeper levels of focus and internal resources for healing and change. Clinical hypnosis involves a natural, focused state of attention in which the mind becomes more receptive to therapeutic suggestions and insights. Contrary to common myths, hypnosis is not about losing control—it’s about enhancing concentration, increasing self-awareness, and creating space for meaningful change.

Research supports the effectiveness of clinical hypnosis across a wide range of issues. Studies have shown that hypnosis can significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety, particularly in generalized anxiety and performance anxiety (Hammond, 2010). It is also highly effective in managing chronic pain; a meta-analysis published in The International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis found that hypnosis consistently reduced pain intensity, improved coping, and enhanced overall functioning (Elkins et al., 2007). For insomnia, hypnosis has been shown to improve both sleep quality and duration by promoting relaxation and reducing hyperarousal.

Clinical hypnosis is also a helpful tool in the treatment of trauma-related symptoms. It can gently support emotional regulation, reduce dissociation, and help integrate difficult experiences. Additionally, it has been used successfully in habit change, such as smoking cessation and reducing unwanted behaviors like nail biting or overeating. Research from the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology has shown that hypnosis, when combined with cognitive-behavioral therapy, can improve treatment outcomes and reduce relapse rates in behavior change.
In therapy, I integrate hypnosis with other evidence-based approaches tailored to your goals. Whether you are working through anxiety, trauma, pain, sleep problems, or self-limiting habits, hypnosis can offer a powerful and accelerated path to relief and growth. The process is always collaborative, respectful, and grounded in psychological safety.
